Patriots Win Their Third Straight Game (5/7/2007) - Fryeburg Academy 3 at Patriots 6

Sophomore Lucas Chase pitched his way to his second consecutive win as the Patriots collected their third straight against Fryeburg Academy at Gray. Due to a series of fielding miscues, inopportune walks, and some timely hitting, the Raiders hung around deep into the ballgame until a well-executed sacrifice bunt by second baseman Josh Dumaine put two runners in scoring position. Joe Billings followed with a fly ball to left field that was deep to enough to allow the tagging Chris Mitaly to score from third base. The RBI served as a much needed insurance run for the Patriots who went on to win the contest, six to three.

In the top of the seventh inning, with a runner on first base, a Chase offering was scorched into centerfield. Outfielder Peter Clement was able to snare the liner and quickly threw the ball to first base where Cody Humphrey picked the ball from the dirt just before the retreating runner could reclaim the bag. Clement also recorded an outfield assist earlier in the game when he fired the ball to third baseman Tom Rich who quickly applied the tag to nab the sliding base runner.

Chase was able to help his cause offensively by depositing two hits, including an opposite field double. He scored two runs.

Mitaly contributed with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, getting the Patriots on the board.

The Patriots scored what proved the winning run when designated hitter Brent Sawyer hit a ground ball to the shortstop whose subsequent throw sailed just over the outstretched glove of the first baseman, allowing two runs to score.

In the complete game victory, Chase scattered seven hits, struck out five, and allowed three runs to score, none of them earned.

The Patriots have won four out of their last five games.
