Senior Peter Clement pitched another brilliant game for the Patriots, but this time came up short as the Greely Rangers defeated Gray-New Gloucester, 3 to 1, in Cumberland.

Clement sailed through the first few innings before allowing two runs to cross in the fifth, none of them earned. The Rangers tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning when a looping line drive fell just beyond the drawn-in infield.

Clement went the distance for Patriots, scattering four hits and striking out five in his six innings of work. He allowed just one earned run, hit a batter, and gave up a base on balls.

Gray-New Gloucester got on the board first when a Lucas Chase single knocked in Josh Dumaine. Chase batted a perfect two-for-two with a walk. Dumaine also reached base three times for the Patriots with a single and two walks.

There were many opportunities for the Patriots to add to their lead, and even after it was lost, they manufactured opportunities to reclaim it. In the end, however, due to some sharp defense and well executed pitches by the opposition, the bulk of the Patriots’ scoring chances were stymied.

The Patriots hope to rebound and end the year on a good note as they gear up to face Wells this Tuesday in Gray. The contest will be last regular season game of the season.
